Two women shaken in Co Down robbery

Two women have been left badly shaken following a robbery at a home in Co Down last night.

The women were in the kitchen of a house in Dunbarton Street, Gilford when two men burst in and demanded money at around 9pm.

They were then threatened with a knife before being tied up. One of the men also brandished a replica handgun during the incident. The two men then ransacked the house before leaving with a sum of money. The women were unhurt in the incident.

Meanwhile, six men are still being questioned following an attempted robbery in Antrim town centre yesterday.

Police called on shoppers to lie on the ground as they made the arrests during the incident at an Ulster Bank branch in Antrim. A replica gun and a substantial amount of money where seized in what police described as part of an ongoing operation against serious crime.

No one was injured in the incident, which is thought to have been foiled as a result of a tip-off.
