CIRA firebomb defused in Keady

A firebomb has been defused by army technical officers in Keady, Co Armagh.

The device was placed at waterworks on the Castleblaney Road in Keady and was dealt with following calls said to be from dissident republican paramilitary group the Continuity IRA.

The firebomb, comprised of a petrol container and a gas cylinder, was discovered in a refuse bin.

Newry and Armagh Ulster Unionist assembly member Danny Kennedy said the attack was a matter of grave concern.

“This is a mindless act of terror by republican dissidents and a reckless action against an economic target," he said.

“It proves once again that the level of threat from republicans in the South Armagh area remains high and cannot be underestimated.

“This is the kind of terror tactic which the people of South Armagh thought they had seen the end of but sadly there are those in our community who cannot leave the evil ways of the past behind.”
