Man knocked unconscious during robbery

A man has been knocked unconscious with a baseball bat during a robbery in Newtownabbey.

Three masked men forced their way into the house on Fairview Crescent at around 3am yesterday morning.

The gang tied up the man after striking him on the head. They covered his eyes and mouth with tape before ransacking the house.

They made off with jewellery, a TV, hi-fi, a sum of cash and a laptop computer.

Police have described one of the attackers as being aged in his early 40’s and was dressed in dark clothes and a monkey hat. He spoke with a local accent.

The assault victim sustained a minor head injury and is suffering shock.

Prisoner Dies At Maghaberry
A prisoner has died in custody at Maghaberry jail. The Northern Ireland Prison Service (NIPS) said the 57-year-old man passed away on Thursday morning, 28 September. His next of kin have been informed and an investigation has been launched.
