Murder investigations underway

Detectives have launched two separate murder investigations following the discovery of two bodies in Belfast.

The first victim is believed to be father-of-five, Edward Burns, whose body was found at the O’Donovan Rossa GAA club on the Falls Road. He had been shot dead.

A man was also admitted to the Royal Victoria Hospital suffering a gunshot wound to the upper body at 3.00am on Monday. It is believed he is helping police with their enquiries in relation to the incident in west Belfast.

Meanwhile, the body of a second man, found in Elmfield Street in the Ardoyne estate at around 8am on Monday morning, has been named locally as Joe Jones.

Police have not yet confirmed if the two murders are related.

Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams said his thoughts were with the families of the bereaved. He said: "While the circumstances surrounding the two deaths is not yet clear, if they were killed, then anyone with any information should bring that information to the police and should co-operate to bring the perpetrators to justice."

The area has been closed for further investigations.
