ARA sell murdered criminal’s home
The home of a murdered drug dealer has been sold by the Assets Recovery Agency (ARA) for £240,000.
Paul Patrick Daly, 38, was gunned down in Belfast in May 2001.
He had been sitting in a car with his partner and 12-year-old daughter at the front of a relative’s house when 10 shots were fired at him.
At the time of the attack detectives were investigating death threats from paramilitaries on both sides of the sectarian divide.
However, police believe republicans most likely carried out the assassination.
The ARA sold the house at Laurelgrove Dale for around £60,000 more than the auction list price.
ARA Deputy Director Alan McQuillan said: "We have sold this property, and the money raised will now be recycled to help fight against crime."
"This again shows that the Proceeds of Crime Act is working. We now look forward to seeing more and more cases being finalised in the High Court."
A High Court recovery order enabled the ARA to take 90% of the proceeds from the property, and Jacqueline Conroy, his partner and beneficiary of his will made 10% of the sale.
