Police prevent theft in Belfast city centre

Police in Belfast are appealing for information after an attempted robbery in the city centre.

At approximately 12.20pm this afternoon a man approached a transit van in Waring Street and made a failed attempt to steal money. A pro-active police operation prevented the theft.

The man escaped in a red Peugeot car with three others and made off in the direction of Talbot Street.

Detectives followed the car towards which stopped then sped off in the Talbot Street and Skipper Street area. The car was then abandoned in North Street. It is understood the car may have damaged a number of other vehicles in the area, however there were no reported injuries.

Police are asking the public to contact them if they were in the Dunbar Link or Waring Street area, shortly before 12.20 this afternoon.
