First super-college to be created in Belfast
The city of Belfast is to get it's first super-college.
Belfast Institute of Further and Higher Education will merge with Castlereagh College in August this year and will be known as the Belfast Metropolitan College.
The merger is expected to be the first of six super-colleges, which the Department of Education is planning to create throughout Northern Ireland.
The plans for the college, as well as the course prospectus for next year are due to be released later today.

Man Released On Bail Over College Stabbing Incident
A man, 20, who was arrested in connection with a stabbing at a college in Belfast has been released on bail. Police said the man was released pending further enquiries. A 26-year-old is currently in hospital following the incident at Belfast Metropolitan College on Thursday. His condition is described as serious but stable.

First NI schools to receive specialist status
Northern Ireland's Education Minister, Angela Smith, has today announced that 12 of the province's schools are to receive specialist status by the end of 2006. It is understood that from September this year, the schools will become centres of excellence in science, entertainment, and language.
