Man still held over Caledon stabbings

The man arrested in connection with a number of stabbing incidents in County Tyrone yesterday morning is still being held by police.

The incident happened at around 11am yesterday morning, when a man, aged in his 20s, entered a convenience store in the Main Street area of the village of Caledon and stabbed four men.

The man is then reported to have ran into the street, still brandishing what has been described as a 10-inch kitchen knife and tried to enter a number of other shops, before being disarmed and arrested by police.

The assailant, who has not yet been named, is said to be from the Caledon area.

One of the men who was injured in the attack remains critically ill in hospital, one is seriously ill, while two are said to be in a stable condition.

Police have not yet established a motive for the attack, however it is believed that the victims were selected at random and were not known to the attacker.

Man Shot In County Down
A 28-year-old man has been shot in the leg in a gun attack in County Down. The man was getting out of his car at the Quays in Killyleagh at about 1.00am on Wednesday morning when a man approached him and shot him. The man is recovering in hospital where his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Caledon stabbings injure four people
Part of Caledon village in County Tyrone has been sealed off following a stabbing attack. Police confirnemed that a man has been arrested and a knife recovered. Four people are understood to have been injured at around 10.40am on Monday morning. Their condition of the injured is not known and there are no further details at present.

Police Officers Disciplined For Failing To Tell Doctor About Woman's Head Injuries
Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.

Man Dies In Co L'Derry House Fire
A man aged in his 50s has died in a house fire in Magherafelt, Co L'Derry An investigation has been launched into the cause of the fire at a house on Highfield Road, however police said that they don't believe the fire was suspicious. The man's identity has not yet been released.

Police Cancel Appeal For Missing Omagh Man
Police have said they believe missing Omagh man, Shane Sharkey, has been found in the Republic of Ireland. A police appeal for help in finding the 35-year-old has been cancelled, with police saying they now believe they know where he is. No further details have been released but police thanked the public for their help.
