Doctor replaces Ervine on City Council
An east Belfast GP has taken over from the late Progressive Unionist Party Leader David Ervine on Belfast City Council.
Dr John Kyle was co-opted onto the Council yesterday evening, following the election of Policing Board member Dawn Purvis who was voted as the new leader of the PUP last Monday.
Dr Kyle, who has been a doctor for the last 32-years, will represent Pottinger Ward in East Belfast, joining Hugh Smyth on the PUP benches in the City Hall.
Commenting on his new post, Dr Kyle said that he was honoured to replace David Ervine and intended to serve his constituents to the best of his ability.
PUP leader Dawn Purvis, welcomed the decision to co-opt Dr Kyle. She said: "I have no doubt that he, like David Ervine before him, will make a great contribution to the work of Belfast City Council."

Call For Council To End Contract With GLL
Unite the union is calling on Belfast City Council to cease its contract with Greenwich Leisure Ltd (GLL) after leaked plans revealed there may be further cuts to staff. The future of leisure centres in Shankill, Loughside and Whiterock are believed to be all under the radar. GLL in London signed a contract to manage the leisure centres in 2014.
