Teenagers killed in weekend road crash named

Police have released the names of the two teenage girls who died in a road accident in Co Antrim over the weekend.

Catherine Graham, 14, and Christina Maguire, 15, both from Toomebridge, died when the van they were travelling in struck a gatepost and then collided with a tree on the Carlane Road close to their home town on Sunday.

Catherine's father Patrick said: "Catherine's my only daughter and it hasn't really sunk in yet the loss Catherine's going to be to myself and the family. She just was a ball of fun, a joy. She was a very fun-loving young girl."

Two teenage boys, who were also in the van, are described as being in a stable condition in hospital while a third teenage girl suffered minor injuries.

Police have appealed for witnesses to the crash to contact them.

The two deaths bring the total number of people killed on Northern Ireland's roads this year to 18, following the death Peter Heavron, 18, who died in an accident on the Aughrim Road in Magherafelt on Saturday.

Eleven of Northern Ireland's road victims this year have been under 18 years of age.
