Blueprint for tackling rural fuel poverty launched
A report based on the findings of a £300,000 pilot project aimed at targeting and tackling rural fuel poverty and poor health has been launched.
The report, 'Transforming Lives: Lessons Learned and Shared', was written to enable others who are embarking on fuel poverty and health schemes to benefit from the experience gained.
Speaking at the launch of the report, John Clough, Chief Executive of Eaga Partnership, outlined how the report had influenced the way in which: Eaga carries out its work on the ground; listens to and responds to community needs; increases participation by working in partnership with local community champions; and works with health professionals and rural communities.
Hard to heat homes in rural areas remain high on the fuel poverty agenda and Eaga will seek to apply the learning from this project in future projects.
The 'Home Is Where The Heat Is' pilot project was funded by the Department for Social Development and Northern Ireland Electricity and delivered benefits valued at more than £1.5 million.
