Plan to build Ireland's tallest building in Belfast

Architects in Northern Ireland are planning to create a construction in Belfast city centre in a bid to gain the title of the tallest building in Ireland – rivalling U2's bid.

The new building, which will cost approximately £90 million to build – will be known as 'the Aurora', will stand at 109 metres tall and will house around 291 luxury apartments, a gym, as well as commercial space.

If given the go-ahead, the Aurora is likely to be built on Great Victoria Street and will stand around 29 metres above the Obel building, which is currently under construction at Donegall Quay.

Managing Director of McAlister Holdings, Mervyn McAlister, said that the Aurora would create up to 300 construction jobs in Northern Ireland over two years and added that the building would create a new benchmark for residential and commercial development in the city of Belfast.
