Apology to family of murdered brothers
The family of three Catholic brothers who were murdered over 30-years-ago, have received an apology for the way they were treated by the security forces.
The apology came from the Historical Inquiries Team's David Cox, who told Eugene Reavey – whose brothers were killed, that they were sure that none of the men had been members of the IRA and added that he regretted the treatment and harassment the family had later endured.
Mr Cox apologised for the fact that no-one from the government or the police ever went to see the men's mother after their deaths, for the harassment the family had received from the army and finally for the fact that their had never been any credible evidence to suggest that the men had been involved with the IRA or any other illegal activity.
John Martin, Brian and Anthony Reavey were shot dead by six masked LVF gunmen who broke into their home in the Whitecross area of south Armagh in January 1976. No one has ever been charged for their murders.
