Man charged over Co Antrim road death

A 39-year-old lorry driver from the Republic has appeared in court this morning to face charges relating to the death of woman in a road collision last weekend.

Mary McMullan, 36, of Whitehall View, Ballycastle, was a front-seat passenger in a Honda car that collided with a lorry on the Drones Road, near Ballymoney in Co Antrim, at around 8.45pm on Friday. The victim's husband, who was the driver of the car, was taken to hospital after the incident where he remains critically ill.

At North Antrim Magistrates Court today, Noel Dermott McKenna, 40, of Drumcoobrady in Co Monaghan, was charged with causing death by dangerous driving. He was also charged with causing grievous bodily harm to Mr McMullan.

Mr McKenna was bailed to reappear at court in two months time.

Man charged following road death
A man has been charged following a road accident on Monday in which a 33-year-old woman died. The 38-year-old man was charged with causing death by dangerous driving and driving while unfit. A second woman was seriously injured in the crash which occurred on Monday on the Newry to Belfast road.

Lawyer considers client's 'overexposure'
The lawyer of a senior north Belfast loyalist has warned that he may report the Chief Constable, Sir Hugh Orde, and an unnamed Sunday newspaper editor to the Attorney General for over exposure of his client. Ihab Shoukri, from Alliance Road, was today remanded on continuing bail charged two counts of being a member of the UDA/UFF.
