Jobs concerns at Castledawson shirt factory

Trade Union leaders have again expressed concerns that jobs are to go the Saville Row shirt factory in Castledawson, Co Londonderry.

There are fears that up to 65 jobs could go at the Castledawson factory which makes shirts for the designer label retailer Thomas Pink.

The Saville Row factory currently employs a round 190 people.

Savile Row Shirt Company has announced a total of 70 redundancies at their Castledawson plant due to loss of orders. The Londonderry company has already entered into consultations with trade union representatives over the issue.

Jobs are to go at a Co Londonderry shirt manufacturer - and the blame is being put squarely on cheap foreign manufacturers. The shock move will see almost a third of the staff at the Londonderry shirt factory Graham Hunter, losing their jobs. Around 30 jobs are expected to go at the shirt factory.

Co Londonderry suffers further jobs blow
Co Londonderry suffered another jobs blow today with the news that all 180 employees of a soft furnishings factory are to lose their jobs. Early this morning, CV Furnishing in Maydown confirmed that it is to close by the end of March. The firm's management informed staff and union officials of the decision at 11am before sending workers home.

Derry Shirt Factory Hit By Job Losses
The local 'rag trade' is suffering again as some 85 jobs are now expected to be lost at a shirt factory in the Waterside area of Londonderry. Gareth Scott from the trade union Unite has described news that the workforce at Glenadden Shirts on the city's Trench Road is to be reduced to 30 as a "devastating blow".

Firefighters tackle blaze at former Londonderry Shirt factory
A former shirt factory in Londonderry has been extensively damaged in an overnight fire. Firefighters spent the night trying to contain the blaze at the derelict Tillie and Henderson building in the cityside end of the Craigavon Bridge at Carlisle Square.
