Jobs boost for County Armagh
Around 60 new jobs are to be created in County Armagh due to an expansion at a pharmaceutical company.
Almac Pharma Services is investing £5.4 million into its headquarters in Craigavon in a bid to strengthen its development in pharmaceutical products.
The company, which employs around 2,000 people worldwide, half of whom are based in Northern Ireland, provides research, development and manufacturing services to more than 600 companies within the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors.
Group Chairman Sir Allen McClay said that the investment showed its "commitment” to the companies operations in Craigavon and added that Almac has a "long-term focus” on developing fully integrated pharmaceutical services from drug discovery through to commercialisation.
Company president Graeme McBurney said: "We are investing to expand the breadth and depth of an already comprehensive suite of commercial services.
"The services offered by Almac Pharma Services are world-class and have a global reach."
DUP MP for the area David Simpson, welcomed the investment and said: "All jobs are important to Craigavon, but on this particular occasion, because of the nature of the business, its research and development into health issues, whether it be treatment for cancer or other aspects, Almac is in the lead in that and I think it's vital that it's based there.”
