Wintry showers disrupt NI roads for second day

Northern Ireland's roads have been severely disrupted for a second day following another night of widespread snow.

While snowploughs and gritters were out in force overnight, it was not enough to prevent numerous road closures across the province.

Some of the worst affected roads are in the mid-Ulster area where up to four inches of snow fell overnight. One of heaviest drifts occurred on the busy A1 dual carriageway near Dromore, Co Down.

Police have also warned motorists of long delays after a lorry skidded into a bank in Lisburn. Ice is also causing problems in and around Omagh and Enniskillen.

Elsewhere, bus and rail links have been disrupted while Stena have cancelled all Belfast to Stranraer HSS sailings. Passengers have been advised to contact the company.

The Met Office is predicting further heavy snow for later this evening, especially in northern, eastern and central areas.
