Bold steps needed to rescue process says Haass
The US Presidents' special adviser on Northern Ireland, Richard Haass has said that "bold steps" will be needed on all sides if the devolved institutions are to be restored.
Mr Haass was speaking today following the latest round of meetings with the British and Irish governments and local representatives.
After today's meeting in Belfast, attended by local representatives, Mr Haass said: "They have got to decide what they are ready to do, they have got to decide what they are able to sell and sustain to their own political constituencies.
"I think everybody understands that we have reached the point where modest steps, baby steps, are not what is needed if we are going to break through and change the situation fundamentally and lead the way to the restoration of devolved political institutions."
He added that the next five or six weeks would be crucial in determining whether devolution could be re-established in the near future.
Taoiseach Bertie Ahern and Prime Minister Tony Blair are scheduled to meet at Hillsborough Castle on Wednesday to discuss the way forward.

Brexit has already undermined political stability in Northern Ireland, according to a House of Lords report. The Lords EU Committee also said that disagreements over Brexit had contributed to the collapse of the Executive in NI. The Committee said that the circumstances of NI will require "unique, flexible and imaginative solutions".

Bomb Alert Was Hoax Says PSNI
A bomb alert in Newtownabbey has been declared a hoax. PSNI have described the security alert as an "elaborate hoax". The M5, was closed in both directions from Hazelbank to Doagh Road, on Tuesday night. All roads have re-opened.
