DUP meet to discuss agreement

The Democratic Unionist Party leadership is today holding a private strategy meeting in County Antrim to discuss the party's involvement in the revival of the devolved Stormont Assembly.

The meeting, which is expected to last all day, will be held at a location in Templepatrick and will be attended by DUP MLAs, peers, MPs and the party's MEP Jim Allister.

Today's meeting is the first opportunity to discuss the party's internal tensions following last Friday's meeting at Stormont, when DUP and Sinn Fein were asked for nominations to the First and Deputy First Minister posts.

After the meeting, which was suspended due to a disruption by loyalist murderer Michael Stone, 12 DUP members signed a statement saying they had not taken part in a designation process.

Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams nominated his party's Chief Negotiator Martin McGuiness for the position of Deputy First Minister.

Prior to today's meeting, Jim Allister MEP warned his party members that the St Andrews Agreement required changes before to could be acceptable.
