Marks and Spencer to create 250 jobs
Marks and Spencer is to create around 250 new jobs in Northern Ireland due to a £35 million refurbishment of its local stores.
The original store, which is based in the Donegall Place area of Belfast will be completely revamped and extended by 10,000 sq ft - incorporating the former Bank of Ireland building beside it in the process.
Other stores to be extended will be the store at Forestside in Castlereagh and the M&S store in Omagh.
In addition, an Outlet store is to be opened at the new Bridgewater Park shopping centre, which is due to open shortly at Banbridge, Co Down.
Work is due to begin early next year and is scheduled to be completed before the Christmas shopping season in 2007.
Marks and Spencer currently employs 2,000 staff in its 14 stores throughout the province.
Commenting on the redevelopment, M&S divisional executive for Ireland Neil Hyslop said: "We are delighted to be reaffirming our commitment to Northern Ireland by investing £35 million in seven different stores, including three major redevelopments and extensions and a brand new Simply Food Store.
"We've recently opened our 14th store at the Abbey Centre in Newtownabbey, which has been extremely well received, and have created a programme for next year which includes a mix of new stores and major redevelopments.”
