Trust admits responsibility for patient's death

A County Fermanagh hospital has today accepted liability for the death of a woman who died after giving birth there in 2001.

Cynthia Humphreys, 31, from Letterbreen died after having a Caesarean section in the Erne hospital in May 2001.

A previous inquest heard that Mrs Humphreys could have survived had blood clotting plasma been available.

However the policy at the Erne hospital was to keep the plasma frozen until required.

This delay resulted in her death.

Shortly before proceedings started during today's inquest, Mrs Humphrey's family received a letter from the Sperrin Lakeland Trust admitting liability for her death.

The family has accepted the Trust's letter of admission.
