NI pupils sit 11-plus exam
Over 15,000 primary school children in Northern Ireland are sitting the first part of their 11-plus transfer test today.
The government has said that it plans to scrap the controversial exam by 2008.
However, if the local assembly resumes next year, the 11-plus will remain in place.
This is understood to be as a result of a concession made to the DUP at the Saint Andrews talks last months when they requested that the new assembly should keep some form of academic selection.
