Adams drums up New York support

Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams is in New York today to meet Irish American supporters.

Mr Adam's visit is viewed as encouragement to Sinn Fein to alter its policing policy in the wake of the St Andrews Agreement.

On a previous visit to the US Mr Adams was banned from fund raising over his party's failure to support policing in the province.

The main NI political parties have until tomorrow to indicate their support for the restoration of devolution timetable laid out the British and Irish governments.

The Ulster Unionists today have gone on the offensive against The Democratic Unionist Party. In a four page insert in the News Letter UUP leader Sir Reg Empey has attacked the DUP for its "political spin" over a range of issues including the veto on North/South decisions fairness and equality for unionists and delivery of republicans on the agreement issues.

Sir Reg emphasised that resolution of all these issues was dependent on a restored Assembly, and could not be delivered by the DUP in isolation.
