Enniskillen suspects released without charge

The two people who were arrested in connection with an explosion in Enniskillen on Monday night have been released without charge.

The men were detained on Wednesday night and were being questioned in connection with the bombing which was later claimed by the Continuity IRA. A third man, who was arrested on Tuesday, has also been released without charge.

Six police officers were injured by the explosion as they cordoned off the area around Enniskillen's town hall. The device, which was made up of 10-15lbs of commercial explosive, had been left beside the building in Water Street. The town hall received superficial damage.

Enniskillen was the scene of one of Northern Ireland's worst terrorist outrages when a bomb exploded at the town's war memorial on Remembrance Day in 1987. Eleven people died and 63 were injured in the attack which was claimed by the IRA.

The Continuity IRA gained prominence after a series of attacks carried out in 1996 and was formed by former IRA activists opposed to the republican ceasefire and the peace process.
