Arson attack on County Down home

A woman in her 50s has managed to escape serious injury following a suspected arson attack on her home in County Down in the early hours of this morning.

Fire crews were called to the fire at the house in the Lower Crescent area of Comber shortly after 2am, and rescued the female occupant who was trapped in an upstairs bedroom.

The woman was taken to hospital where she received treatment for the effects of smoke inhalation.

It has been reported that a flammable material may have been pushed into the house through the letterbox, and detectives investigating the incident have appealed to anyone who may have any information which may help with their investigation, to contact them in Comber on 0845 600 8000, or anonymously on the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.

Fatal House Fire In Newtownards
A woman in her 30s has died in a fire at a house in Newtownards, Co. Down. The fire occurred at a house in Ilex Avenue at around 5.30pm and the woman is reported to have died at the scene. An investigation into the circumstances of the death is being conducted by police who have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

Belfast Hotel Plan Dropped: Report
A government-supported plan to build a hotel in central Belfast has been scrapped, the BBC has reported. Back in 2007, the Department for Social Development appointed Tullymore House Ltd as preferred developer for Armagh House in the city’s Ormeau Avenue, with plans to convert the building into an upmarket hotel.
