Teenager struck in face with firework

Police in County Down have appealed for information after a teenager was struck in the face with a firework yesterday evening.

The incident happened shortly after 11pm, when a 16-year-old male who was walking along the Poyntzpass Road area of Loughbrickland, was struck in the right eye by a firework.

It is not known from which direction the firework came, however it is understood that a large number of youths had gathered in the area around the time of the incident.

Police have asked for the the youths to come forward in order to be eliminated from the investigation, and have appealed to parents to warn their children of the dangers of fireworks when misused.

Meanwhile a 69-year-old County Antrim woman has been injured after a firework set fire to her clothes.

Shortly after 7pm, the woman went to the front door of her home in the Dervock area near Ballymena, after hearing a loud bang at her front window.

After opening the front door, the woman was struck by a firework, which set fire to her nightclothes.

The woman managed to put out the flames, however sustained burns to her legs during the incident.

Boy injured during firework incident
Police in Newtownabbey are investigating the circumstances surrounding an incident in which a 15-year-old boy was burnt by a firework on Friday morning. It is understood that a firework was placed in the teenager's pocket and ignited during an incident at Glengormley High School in County Antrim.

PSNI: Firework Arson Attack Had Potential To Cause Tragedy
Police have said an arson attack using fireworks could have ended in tragedy this morning. Fire crews were called to a property in the Rossnareen Road area of west Belfast in the early hours of Monday 04 November. Woman Suffers Facial Burns After Firework Thrown At Police
A woman has been treated in hospital for facial injuries she sustained after being struck by a firework that had been aimed at police in south Belfast. The woman, aged in her 30s, suffered burns to her face in the incident in Belfast city centre on the evening of Monday, 23 October.

Investigation Launched After Lit Firework Thrown Onto Glider
The PSNI have issued an appeal for information and witnesses after fireworks were thrown into a shop and a bus in separate incident in west Belfast on Monday, 18 September. In the first incident around 9.15pm, a lit firework was thrown into a shop on the Stewartstown Road, starting a fire in the premises.
