Police warn public over bogus callers
Police in north Belfast have warned residents to be vigilant following three incidents involving bogus callers in the area yesterday evening.
At around 6pm, a man claiming to be a police officer and wearing a yellow coat and what has been described as a police cap, called to the home of a woman in the Jellicoe Avenue area of the city.
The man tried to gain access to the house, however when the woman refused this, he left.
Approximately one hour later, a man, also dressed as a police officer, called to the home of a man aged in his 70s and again tried to gain access to the property.
The pensioner refused and the man made off.
In both incidents a second man is believed to have been involved.
Shortly before 9pm, two men, again claiming to be police officers called to the home of a woman in the Sealands Parade area of north Belfast.
It is understood that one of the men managed to enter the house, however it is not yet known what was taken.
Detectives have warned the public to be wary of bogus callers and to always ask unexpected callers to produce identification.
Anyone who may have witnessed any of the incidents, or anyone who may have any information in connection with them, should contact police on 0845 600 8000, or anonymously on the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.
