Suspicious device at DIY store made safe

Army technical officers have made safe a device at a DIY store in south Belfast.

The fire bomb, which was discovered at the B&Q store on the Boucher Road yesterday evening, was defused without any damage being caused.

This followed a similar incident at a B&Q store in Londonderry yesterday afternoon, when two suspicious devices were discovered at the store on the Buncrana Road area of the city.

The discovery was later declared a hoax.

On Saturday evening, the B&Q store in Newtownabbey was attacked in a similar fashion.

Shortly before 11.40pm, an incendiary device exploded in the timber section of the premises.

Water and smoke damage was caused during the incident, however no one was injured.

Police have urged business owners to be vigilant for any suspicious objects, and have warned them to check their premises before locking up.

If anything suspicious is discovered, police should be contacted immediately on: 0845 600 8000, or anonymously on: 0800 555 111.
