'Racist' attacks on County Antrim homes

Police in County Antrim have appealed for information following a number of racist attacks on homes at the weekend.

Three homes were targeted during the incident which happened at around 1am on Sunday morning, during which three houses in the Drumard Drive area of Lisburn, occupied by Lithuanian nationals, had windows broken and fireworks set off.

No one was injured.

Commenting on the attacks, PSNI Superintendent Mark Gilmore said that “racist attacks were unacceptable.”

He continued: "Hate crime and anti-social behaviour is simply not acceptable and I will be using all available resources to track those people responsible and bring them before the courts.

"I appeal for anyone with information to contact local police and for those responsible to seriously consider what they have done and hand themselves in before they receive a visit from the police."

SDLP MLA Patricia Lewsley said that someone could have been seriously injured or killed during the attack, and added that people coming from other countries to work in Northern Ireland should be protected.

She added that an end must be brought to these types of incidents and the perpetrators must be caught.

Anyone who may have witnessed the attacks, or who may have any information in relation to them, are asked to contact police in Lisburn on 0845 600 8000, or anonymously on the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.
