Police re-appeal for information on loyalist's murder
Police investigating the murder of former UDA leader Jim Gray, have today issued a fresh appeal for information – exactly one year after he was killed.
Forty-seven-year-old Gray was shot a number of times in the back, shortly after 8pm on October 4 2005, outside his father's home in the Knockwood Park area of the Clarawood estate in east Belfast.
He died from his injuries at the scene.
So far, a total of seven people have been arrested in connection with the murder, however no one has ever been charged.
A number of searches have also been carried out in the Castlereagh and east Belfast areas.
Gray was expelled from the UDA in 2005, and had been living with his father whilst on bail on money laundering charges.
A statement from the PSNI today said: “There has been some comment and speculation regarding the alleged criminal activities of Mr Gray, however the fact is he was brutally murdered, and the Police Service of Northern Ireland will fulfil its obligations in attempting to bring to justice those responsible for his murder.”
Detectives are appealing to anyone who was in the Knockwood Park area on October 4 2005, between 7.45 pm and 8.15 pm, to contact them.
They are also appealing for information on a vehicle that is believed to have been used by Gray's murderer.
The car, a blue Vauxhall Astra with the registration number MBZ 2522, was found a short time after the shooting on Geary Road in Belfast, badly damaged by fire.
Anyone who saw the car being abandoned, or anyone who may have seen the vehicle being driven from Knockwood Park to Geary Road, is asked to get in touch with police.
Anyone with any information should contact with the Major Investigation Team at Ladas Drive on 0845 600 8000, or they can ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
