Derry flight returns as pilot falls ill
A Ryanair flight from London to the City of Derry Airport has had to turn back mid-flight after a pilot fell ill.
The plane returned to Stansted airport, where passengers were transferred to another flight which arrived in Londonderry at around 11pm last night.
The runway was closed for around 15 minutes while emergency services dealt with the ailing crew member.
It is understood that the man, believed to be the captain of the plane, had contracted food poisoning, however no passengers are thought to be in danger of the same.
Ryanair, which is a budget airline, is one of the main customers of the Derry City Council-owned airfield and operates hundreds of flights there every year.
