Arson attacks in County Londonderry

Police in County Londonderry have appealed for information after a number of houses were damaged by arsonists in the early hours of this morning.

Three houses were damaged and telephone lines melted during two separate arson attacks in the Shantallow area.

The first incident happened shortly before midnight last night, when a house and fence in the Drumleck Drive area of the city were damaged when the oil tank was set alight.

In a separate incident, at around 2.45am, the fuel tank at the rear of a property in the Liscloon Drive area was also set on fire. The occupants of the houses managed to escape uninjured.

A spokesperson for the Fire and Rescue Service, today said that the attacks could have caused "potentially serious injuries" to residents, and added that if it wasn't for the help of fire crews, the fires could have spread and serious injuries and extensive damage.

Police investigate separate arson attacks
Police are appealing for information following separate arson attacks at the weekend. In west Belfast the occupants of a house in Falcarragh Drive discovered two cars on fire outside their property at around 2.30am on Sunday. Such was the intensity of the blaze, the front door of the house was damaged however no one was injured in the incident.

Houses damaged in separate petrol bomb attacks
Two houses have been attacked in separate petrol bomb attacks in Belfast and Downpatrick. In north Belfast, a device was thrown through a glass pane in the front door of a house on the Crumlin Road at around 11pm last night. In Downpatrick, a house in the Mount Crescent area suffered scorch damage in the early hours of Friday morning.

Cars Damaged In Arson Attacks In Newtownards
Police have issued an appeal for information after cars were damaged in overnight arson attacks in Newtownards, Co Down. It is believed the attacks are linked to an ongoing feud in the area.

Forty officers hurt during trouble in north Belfast
Forty police officers have been injured following rioting in the Woodvale area of north Belfast on Thursday. The disorder broke out at around 5.30pm following a number of searches carried out by police in connection with investigations into an ongoing loyalist feud. One bus was destroyed by fire and ten other vehicles were damaged.
