Four appear in court after drugs find
Four men have appeared at Belfast Magistrates Court in connection with a major drugs find at the weekend.
Over £50,000 of cocaine was seized during a raid at a house in the Ardoyne area of north Belfast on Friday evening.
Niall McCartney, 27, from Springfield Meadows in Belfast, Martin Short, 34, from Farringdon Court, Belfast, Paul McLarnon, 23 from Grange Road in Toomebridge, and James Walsh, 27, from Sperrin View in Magherafelt all appeared in court charged with possession of a Class A drug with intent to supply.
Mr Short was also charged with handling stolen goods, possessing and cultivating cannabis and possession of a rifle.
When cross-examined by Mr McLarnon and Mr Walsh's solicitor, a police constable confirmed that both men had provided a legitimate reason for being in the house during the raid, claiming that they were discussing a dog which Mr Walsh had bought from the occupier.
The police constable also confirmed that Mr McCartney had denied any knowledge of the drugs, and the only evidence police had against him was his presence at the house.
Mr Short was remanded in custody for one month, whilst the other three men were released on bail to appear before the court on October 9.
