Attempted abduction in Coleraine

An investigation is underway in County Londonderry following the attempted abduction of a child yesterday afternoon.

The incident happened shortly after 2.15pm, when a nine-year-old boy was approached by a man driving what is believed to be a white coloured Rover car, in the forecourt of a garage on the junction of the Bushmills Road and Railway Road in Coleraine.

The man, who is believed to have been accompanied by a second man, driving an Aprillia scooter and wearing a red leather jacket, tried to encourage the boy to get into his car.

The child refused and managed to make his way home unharmed.

Police have appealed for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or noticed either the car or the scooter in the area, to contact them in Coleraine on 0845 600 8000, or anonymously on the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.
