Three remanded over terrorist funding

Three men have been remanded in custody over charges of terrorist funding and blackmail.

Patrick John McGowan, 44, of Learmount Road in Claudy, and Jonathan Forrest, 28, and Brian William Conwell, 30, both of no fixed address, appeared before Londonderry Magistrates Court earlier today, following their arrests on Saturday evening during a police operation investigating serious crime.

All three were accused of gathering money and property for the purpose of terrorism, and blackmail.

Mr Conwell was also charged with an additional charge of making a threat to kill.

All three are expected to re-appear before the same court via video-link on Thursday.

A fourth man, who was arrested during the same operation, was released without charge pending a report to the Public Prosecution service.
