Security alert at Shannon airport ends
Over 230 passengers on a flight from the USA to Ireland have been caught up in a major security alert after a bomb threat was made against the aircraft.
People travelling on the plane, along with their luggage, were taken for security inspection when the Aer Lingus aircraft Flight EI 112 flight landed at Shannon airport in County Clare shortly after 7am this morning.
No explosives were found and passengers have since been given clearance to continue with their journey.
It is understood that Gardai received a telephone warning regarding the bomb, at around 4am.
Today's alert is the latest in a series of security alerts to affect airlines since police in London foiled an alleged plot to blow up US-bound flights from the UK earlier this month.
