Postman held at gunpoint during robbery

Police in County Antrim are appealing for information following an armed robbery earlier today.

Two masked men, one armed with a shotgun approached a Royal Mail van which was parked on the Ballynadrentagh Road, near Crumlin at around 9am today.

The robbers held the postman at gunpoint and then rammed the post office vehicle twice, before making off with a quantity of post.

The postman was taken to hospital, however his condition is unknown.

The red coloured saloon type car in which the robbers were travelling, was later found burnt out close to Aldergrove. It is thought the robbers abandoned the car before escaping in another vehicle. The robbers are both said to be around 6ft in height and of slim build.

One of the men was wearing a black long sleeved top with red stripes, and the other was wearing a black, long sleeved top.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have any information in relation to it, should contact police on 0845 600 8000, or anonymously on the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.
