Attempted robbery in Newry
Police in County Down have appealed for information following an attempted robbery yesterday afternoon.
The incident happened at around 2pm, when a male, armed with a knife, entered a shop at a service station on the Warrenpoint Road in Newry.
The male walked around the shop for a few minutes before producing a large knife and grabbing a young female member of staff and demanded cash.
The assailant then grabbed a second young female staff member and again demanded that she hand over a sum of money.
One of the girls then screamed and when the owner of the premises appeared, the male fled empty handed.
The robber is said to have been wearing a hooded top, and had a scarf covering his face.
No one was hurt during the incident, however the shop assistants were left badly shaken by the ordeal.
Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have any information in relation to it, are asked to contact detectives in Newry on 02830 265500, or anonymously on the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.

Businesses Damaged By Blaze In Portstewart
An investigation has launched after a number of businesses were damaged by a blaze in The Diamond in Portstewart. The alarm was raised at 5am on Monday, however fire crews were called back at around 9.30am. A chip shop, coffee shop and hairdressers were damaged as a result. An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.

Shops Damaged In Bangor, Co Down
A number of shops in Bangor's town centre have been damaged in an attack. Police have said the incident occurred in Main Street in the town in the early hours of Tuesday morning. Windows were smashed at a number of properties, including The Mortgage Shop, Asda and Boots, while damage was also caused to vehicles in the area.

Weekend robberies may be linked
Police have appealed for information following a number of armed robberies at the weekend. In the first incident, a man, armed with a knife, entered a butchers shop on the Springfield Road in west Belfast at around 4pm on Saturday and threatened staff.

Shop assistants threatened at gunpoint
Police are appealing for information after two shop assistants were threatened by armed men in south Belfast last night. The men entered the shop on the Upper Malone Road at around 8.30pm and threatened staff with a handgun and knife. One of those threatened was a 16-year-old female.
