Police appeal after Belfast robberies

Police are appealing for information following two separate robberies in Belfast yesterday.

The first of these took place in the north of the city yesterday morning at a Bookmakers on the Crumlin Road.

At around 9.50am, the manager was opening his premises when he was approached by a man who ordered him not to turn around. The manager was then forced inside the shop and a substantial amount of money was stolen from the safe.

The robber is thought to have been armed with a handgun.

Shortly afterwards, a robbery took place outside a bank on the Andersonstown Road in the west Belfast.

At around 10.30am, a man armed with a handgun held up a security guard delivering money to the bank. The guard was assaulted and the thief made off with a box containing money.

The man is described as being about 5'10" tall, of stocky build with a fair complexion. He was wearing light blue jeans, a black hat and a yellow jacket.

Police have urged anyone with information on either incident to contact them.
