Attempted murder accused appears in court
A 21-year-old man from west Belfast has appeared in Belfast Magistrates Court today charged with the attempted murder of a 54-year-old man at the weekend.
Gerard Michael Donegan, from Ross Road in the Falls Road area, was charged with the attempted murder of Maurice McCracken in the early hours of Sunday morning. Mr McCracken was asleep in bed at his south Belfast home when he was attacked by an intruder armed with a hammer.
Donegan is also charged with assaulting Mr McCracken's wife Maureen as well as causing serious injury to a man and his son living nearby.
Donegan was further charged with stealing a car and driving it dangerously and while unfit through drink or drugs.
He made no reply to the charges and was remanded in custody until April 9.
Two other men held over the incident have snce been released without charge.

Belfast man pleads guilty to attempted murder charge
A Belfast man charged with attempted murder has pleaded guilty at court today. Gerard Donegan last week apologised for attacking Maurice McCracken in March 2003 with a hammer. The resulting injuries left the 56-year-old man severely brain damaged and unable to walk.

Man Charged With Attempted Murder
A 35-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder over an attack in Coleraine, Co L'Derry. The victim, aged in his 50s, is in a critical condition after being assaulted at a house on the Ballycastle Road on Monday, 26 September. The suspect is due to appear at Coleraine Magistrates' Court on Monday, 17 October.

Lawyer considers client's 'overexposure'
The lawyer of a senior north Belfast loyalist has warned that he may report the Chief Constable, Sir Hugh Orde, and an unnamed Sunday newspaper editor to the Attorney General for over exposure of his client. Ihab Shoukri, from Alliance Road, was today remanded on continuing bail charged two counts of being a member of the UDA/UFF.
