Two released in attempted murder probe

Two people who were arrested in connection with inquiries into the attempted murder of a man in Londonderry two weeks ago, have been released on police bail.

Two others are still being held by police for questioning over the incident.

The three men and a juvenile were arrested in the Fountain area of the city yesterday.

Paul McCauley, 29, was beaten unconscious by a gang of around eight people after attending a going-away barbecue for a friend in the Waterside area of Derry on July 16.

Mr McCauley, a Catholic, suffered serious head injuries when he was kicked and punched as he sat in the garden of a house at Chapel Road after the party.

He remains in a coma and his condition is described as "critical."

Police have confirmed that they are treating the attack as attempted murder.

Two of the victims friends were also attacked during the incident.

One sustained a fractured jaw, while the other was left badly bruised.

Police are treating the incident as a sectarian attack.

Police link hostage incident to attack on police station
Police have linked a gun attack on a police station on Wednesday night with a hostage incident in Co Antrim. A van used in the shooting of Randalstown PSNI station on Wednesday evening is believed to have been the vehicle stolen earlier in the evening from a family who were held hostage by a gang of men at a house in Craigstown Road in the town.

Three Arrested Over Attempted Murder Of Police Officers In Strabane
Three people have been arrested in Strabane in connection with the attempted murder of two police officers in the town in November 2022. Detectives from the Terrorism Investigation Unit arrested two women, aged 25 and 27, and one man, aged 51, under the Terrorism Act. They have been taken to Musgrave Serious Crime Suite for questioning.
