Homes attacked in north Belfast
Police in north Belfast are investigating a number of reports of criminal damage to houses and cars in Catherine Court in the Whitewell area of the city yesterday evening.
It has been reported that a gang of masked men armed with hatchets and golf clubs, entered the area just before 11.30pm and proceeded to break several windows of homes and vandalise a number of cars.
The attacks came just hours after homes and vehicles in the nearby loyalist Graymount area were targeted during a similar incident on Sunday morning.
No one was injured during the attacks and police have said that they will be closely monitoring the situation and patrols are to be stepped up in the areas.
SDLP councillor Pat Convery said: "This was a concerted and organised attack and very worrying for residents."
He said that any attack regardless of which community is being targeted is to be condemned.
DUP MP for north Belfast, Nigel Dodds, appealed for the attacks to end, and called for CCTV to be installed in the area.
He said: "All these attacks are deplorable and should stop immediately.
"People taking part in them do not represent the vast majority of ordinary decent people who want to live in peace and quiet and who do not want to see this type of violence on their doorsteps."
