Man assaulted in city attack
Police have appealed for information after a man was seriously assaulted in the early hours of this morning.
A PSNI spokesperson said that a 27-year-old man sustained a fractured skull, after he and another man went to the aid of two women who had been approached by three men outside a bank on the Dublin Road in Belfast, at a round 1.50am.
An altercation broke out and one of the women was punched in the face.
The two men intervened and one was kicked and punched to the ground.
He was taken to hospital with serious head injuries. His condition is described as critical.
The attackers made off in the direction of the city centre, punching a passer-by in the face on the way. The man was treated in hospital for an eye injury.
Police have appealed for anyone who may have witnessed the attack or who may have any information i n connection to it, to contact them on 0845 600 8000, or on the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.

Man Shot In County Down
A 28-year-old man has been shot in the leg in a gun attack in County Down. The man was getting out of his car at the Quays in Killyleagh at about 1.00am on Wednesday morning when a man approached him and shot him. The man is recovering in hospital where his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Co Fermanagh man suffers broken nose in robbery
A Co Fermanagh man has suffered a broken nose after being assaulted by two men at his home in Enniskillen. The 65-year-old man was confronted by two men who forced their way into his home on Sunday. They then assaulted him before robbing his home. It is understood that a sum of money was taken during the robbery.

The attack occurred in the Waterloo Place area of the city on Saturday 6 July at around 1.45am. The victim, who is aged in his 20s, was reported to have been punched once by another man and was taken to hospital for treatment.

A police officer who punched a man in the face during his arrest has been cleared of misconduct by the Police Ombudsman's Office. The incident took place at a house in County Down in April, when the complainant was struck in the face and head whilst hiding in a cubby hole, according to the watchdog.

The shooting happened shortly before 11pm when a number of men went into his house in the Butler Walk area. The victim is being treated in the Royal Victoria Hospital where his injury has been described as "severe".
