Government campaign to promote broadband

A €500,000 cross-border TV advertising campaign is to be launched next week, to highlight the benefits of broadband access.

Four adverts have been made by Tigervision.com to aid the campaign, which is due to commence on Monday July 10.

NI Enterprise Minister, Maria Eagle, today welcomed the launch of the campaign by her Republic of Ireland counterpart, Minister for the Department of Communications, Marine and Natural Resources (DCMNR), Noel Dempsey. She said: "This advertising campaign highlights the benefits broadband can deliver, not only for businesses but for all aspects of life.

“Broadband places small and medium enterprises at the centre of the on-line economy allowing them to trade on an international basis irrespective of their location."

Ms Eagle continued: “We can use broadband in our day to day lives, for learning, health, shopping and entertainment. I want to encourage everyone to fully utilise broadband and take advantage of the services it can deliver."

Northern Ireland is leading the way with uptake of broadband; since it became 100% available in January, 33% of Northern Ireland households are now connected to broadband. In the RoI broadband uptake is at 23%.

The TV campaign, which will be shown in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, has been funded by DCMNR, ComReg and the EU, through the INTERREG IIIa programme.
