Devices recovered in north Belfast

Police have recovered pipe bombs and detonators during a search in north Belfast.

Four pipe bombs, a number of detonators and a quantity of ammunition were found during the searches which were carried out in the vicinity of an electricity sub-station on the Deerpark Road in the north of the city, yesterday afternoon.

Army Technical Officers carried out a clearance operation before the items were taken away for forensic examination.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Pipe bombs are lethal devices which have the ability to cause grievous injury or take life. The local community in north Belfast is much safer as a result of the seizure, and this must be welcomed by everyone. The Police Service is tackling, and will continue to tackle, all crime where it occurs."

Police said that no arrests were made.
