Leading republican's farm destroyed by fire

Part of a farm believed to belong to leading republican Thomas 'Slab' Murphy, has been destroyed in a fire.

The farm blaze, at a property in Hackballscross, close to the border between County Armagh and County Louth in the Republic, was attended by a number of fire appliances from Crossmaglen, Dundalk and Ardee.

It is understood that the fire started in a workshop at the rear of the property at around noon and then spread to a hayshed.

No one was injured during the blaze.

A full examination into the circumstances surrounding the fire is to be carried out, however at this stage it is understood to have started accidentally.
