Three arrested in connection with armed robbery

Three men have been arrested in connection with an armed robbery of a security van in County Down yesterday morning.

Police have said that a man, dressed in a fluorescent jacket and armed with a knife, approached the security guard while he was making a delivery to a grocery store on the Hill Street area of Newry, just before 10am. The cash box was snatched from the guard's hand.

The robber then made off in a silver coloured car, which was driven by a second person.

The car was later found abandoned in the Craigmore Road area of the town and the stolen cash box was also recovered.

A short time later, police stopped a car and arrested three men aged 27, 28 and 32 in connection with the robbery.

The men have been charged with armed robbery, handling stolen goods and going equipped and will appear in Newry Magistrates Court later today.
