Police patrol attacked in Newtownabbey
A police patrol has been attacked while carrying out a routine call in County Antrim.
Around 40-people were involved in the attack, in which bottles and bricks were thrown at officers, and a petrol bomb thrown at a police Land Rover after they were called out to the New Mossley estate in Newtownabbey at around 10.25pm yesterday.
No one was injured during the incident.
Police district commander for the area, Superintendent Will Kerr today condemned the attack.
He said: "My officers are dedicated to making the Newtownabbey area a safe place for people to live and work hard to achieve this end.
"However it is important to realise that attacks such as last night impact adversely on the level of service that can be provided and I would appeal to the community to stand with us in our fight against crime.
"I have already had a very positive conversation with some of the community representatives in the local area and I am confident that the majority of the local population will assist us wherever possible."
Meanwhile, detectives are investigating the circumstances behind a petrol and paint bomb attack on a house in Dromara, County Down last night.
Paint bombs were thrown at the windows of the house on the Rathfriland Road and a car, which was parked outside the property sustained extensive damage after being hit with a petrol bomb.
Police have appealed for anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who may have noticed any suspicious activity in the area at around 1am, to contact them on 0845 600 8000 or on the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.
