Fire crews attacked by stone throwing youths
A fire crew has come under attack while attending a blaze in County Londonderry yesterday evening.
The fire service were called to the scene of a suspected arson attack at a farm building on the Whitehouse Road area of Coshquin, at around 10pm when the attack happened.
A number of youths gathered in the area and began to throw bottles and bricks at the fire fighters, causing the crew to withdraw from the area.
A spokesman for the fire service today said that someone could have been seriously injured or lives could have been put at risk.
He continued by saying that as the units left the area, one of the fire-fighters was struck on the head by a missile thrown by the youths.
He said that the crew member's helmet split, which left the man shaken but uninjured, and added that this could have resulted in a serious injury.

ASSEMBLY CREATE AWARD TO HONOUR FIRE SERVICE
THE Northern Ireland Fire Service is to receive the first ever award given by the province's devolved assembly. An illuminated scroll is to be presented to Chief Fire Officer John McClelland on Tuesday, by assembly speaker Lord Alderdice in tribute to the sacrifice made by fire fighters over the years.

NIFRS Launches Online Home Fire Safety Check Tool
The Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) has introduced a new online tool to help residents assess their home fire safety. The Home Fire Safety Check coincides with Fire Safety Week, which runs from September 30th to October 6th. The initiative aims to reduce the number of house fires in Northern Ireland.

Minister Condemns Attacks On Fire Crews
Attacks on fire crews place their lives in danger and put communities at risk, said Public Safety Minister Michael McGimpsey today. Condemning a further spate of attacks on firefighters in Dungannon and Londonderry over the weekend, the Minister said it was absolutely unacceptable for anyone to assault emergency workers.

Fire crews attacked at Derry fire
Firefighters in Londonderry have been attacked while tackling a fire in the city yesterday evening. It has been reported that fire crews were attending the scene of a gorse fire at Earhart Park in the Shantallow area at around 10.30pm, when they came under attack.
