Newtownabbey woman attacked by bogus caller

Police in Newtownabbey have appealed for information following a report of a bogus caller in the Greenisland area yesterday morning.

Police have said that a a man claiming to be from the water service called to a house in the Old Carrick Road area of the town.

A 22-year-old woman answered the door to the man, but when he failed to produce identification, she refused him entry.

However, the man forced his way into the house and punched the woman in the face, before grabbing a purse and a sum of money.

A struggle ensued and the victim's pet dog jumped at the robber, who then fled, dropping the purse as he went.

The thief then made off in a small white van, which was parked against the flow of traffic on the Old Carrick Road.

The attacker is described as being in his early 30's, around 6 feet tall, of medium build and with very short fair hair.

He was wearing a blue coloured boiler suit and a pair of brown suede gloves.

Police have appealed for anyone who may have witnessed the incident, noticed the van parked in the area, or have any information relating to the incident, to contact them on 0845 600 8000, or on the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.
